The Perfect 24 Hours in Beaver Creek

Rest and relaxation at the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa

Ryan and I arrived in Avon, Colorado, on a perfect blue-bird day but didn’t have skiing on our minds. I was here on a mini wellness trip; twenty-four hours of rest and relaxation.

The Westin Riverfront lobby

We checked into the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa at Beaver Creek and admired the amazing views from the expansive, sunlit lobby. The resort sits on the banks of Beaver Creek and provides guests a spectacular view of Beaver Creek Mountain.

The yoga studio

Ryan had client meetings in the area so he headed out while I made my way downstairs to the Westin’s fitness center for an hour of Vinyasa yoga with Diana. During my mountain travels I have discovered that yoga is an excellent way to quickly acclimate to elevation; just make sure that you are well-hydrated before and during class. The Athletic Club at the Westin has a number of daily yoga classes available.

The pool and hot tub area

After an hour of yoga, it was time for a soak in the Westin’s infinity-style saltwater hot tubs. In addition to their beauty, a dip in these tubs is really good for you. According to Livestrong.com, the combination of heat and salt water can be an “effective way to treat swelling and edema,” making it an excellent choice for after a workout.

While soaking in the sunlight I got hungry, so I hit The Lift Cafe for a sandwich. In addition to menu items, this brightly lit cafe features a small market where guests can buy snacks for the slope or their room. In the morning, it’s an ideal place to grab a breakfast burrito on your way to the Riverfront Express, the gondola system that runs from the Westin to Beaver Creek Mountain.

The hallway in Spa Anjali

Next up on my wellness agenda was a facial at the Westin’s Spa Anjali. Greeted with a glass of wine, my personalized facial with Jacqueline was divine and not just because of the chocolate and shea butter face mask. It was a truly bewitching experience.

Spa Anjali

Interestingly, Ryan discovered from his clients that Spa Anjali has a wonderful reputation among locals who love the Westin and the spa for “staycations.”

We had dinner reservations at the Westin’s in-house restaurant, Maya. A Chef Richard Sandoval eatery, Maya serves up modern Mexican cuisine and offers more than 100 agave-based spirits and house-infused tequila. I have eaten at a handful of Sandoval restaurant; they are all top-notch with incredibly fresh food and the world’s nicest wait staff. The table side guacamole is a must.

The next morning we got up early to experience the sunrise from the Westin’s hot tubs. Sipping coffee and watching the thick steam evaporate in the cold mountain air, we realized that while a 24-hour getaway is nice, the next time we visit the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa at Beaver Creek, we’ll make it a 48-hour retreat.
