How to Make a Small Space Feel Large
Just because a space is small doesn’t mean it has to feel that way. Here, interior design Tracie Schumacher, founder of Eagle, Colorado-based Studio80 Interior Design, offers expert tips for making every little inch count.
Reduce your clutter
It’s important that a space has a good flow, so remove those things you don’t need to lighten the load a little bit.
Rethink your space plan
For example, look at where the sun shines in the morning, and make that the place where you have your first cup of coffee or tea. It may be as simple as moving your table, or maybe your library becomes the dining room.
Make use of mirrors
A strategically placed mirror can instantly make a small space feel bigger, and its frame can add a dose of color, texture and style.
Customize nooks and crannies
Hire a local craftsperson to install built-in shelving or help you transform a tight little nook into an office space or bar area. You might even get some lumber and brackets and launch a do-it-yourself project.
