Kathryn Mapes Turner's painting will grace the poster for the 35th annual Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival
Of Earth and Wind, a painting by Jackson native Kathryn Mapes Turner, has been chosen as the featured artwork that will grace 2019 Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival posters. The painting itself will be on display at Jackson’s historical Wort Hotel until it is auctioned off on Saturday, September 14.

"For me, horses have the essential qualities of power, strength, agility and also gracefulness. This is what I was trying to capture in this featured painting for this year’s Fall Arts Festival," says Turner.
The Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival celebrates 35 years in Jackson, Wyoming this year. Produced annually by the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce, the 12-day event takes place September 4 – 15, 2019.
“We selected Kathryn’s majestic painting of a galloping horse with a moody Teton backdrop as our featured painting, capturing the independent spirit Jackson Hole is known for," says Maureen Murphy, Director of Special Events for the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce.
Kathryn Mapes Turner is known for her exquisite work in oil and watercolor. Her longtime love of landscapes, mountains and wildlife are evident in her extraordinary body of award-winning work. Growing up on a ranch in Grand Teton National Park, surrounded by its dramatic light and remarkable natural composition, helped shape Turner’s aesthetic as well as an intimate appreciation for art from childhood.
"My love for horses started as far back as I can remember because I was blessed to have been born and raised on the Triangle X Ranch, my family’s historic dude ranch in what is now Grand Teton National Park," notes Turner.
"This image was inspired by a special event that happens twice each day on the ranch when we wrangle our herd of horses to and from their pastures. There’s nothing quite like seeing these horses running with the Tetons in the background. The thundering hooves of the horses kick up dust that diffuses the light and softens everything. I tried to capture these veils in my painting," Turner says.
