Admiring the Magic of Bozeman, Montana

I love Bozeman, Montana, with its Old West authenticity combined with New West sophistication—an international airport, new shops, and award-winning restaurants. Recently I was in town for Mountain Living’s Networking by Design event held at Urbaine Home—a wonderful boutique with furniture and accessories sourced from around the world.

Speaking at the Networking By Design event at Urbaine Home

Throughout the year, ML visits many of the communities that we cover to meet with architects, designers and artisans. These events are an opportunity for me to meet the people who send us story ideas, home photos, and samples of their work, allowing me to finally match faces with names—thanks to Urbaine Home's hospitality, the event was a smashing success.

I admire Bozeman’s college-town vibe; home to Montana State University, the town is both youthful and intellectual. Many of the people I chatted with are professors, instructors, and PhDs—in addition to being architects and designers and artisans.

I took my iPhone and walked around town to capture some of my favorite things:

Located in a renovated feed store, Architect’s Wife is a design store offering contemporary and custom furniture, lighting, and décor. It is also the location of Abby Hetherington Interior Design.

Tile design by Tad Bradley

Tad Bradley is an architectural designer, glass artist, and educator. I visited Tad’s studio and was astounded by the work he’s producing.

The General Store was not open on the day I was in town but I couldn’t resist snapping a photo of the storefront.

One of my favorite things about Bozeman is that people still like to sit on a bench and talk with their neighbors.

And it's not uncommon to find musicians entertaining people as they pass.

P.S. Recent MSU graduate Lesley Frazier showed us in pictures what she loves about Bozeman, too. Below is the product of a photo assignment where she took snapshots of the same location at three different times of day.
