Tucked within a grove of aspens sits a contemporary home artfully situated on a linear site that integrates seamlessly with the landscape. With a sweeping view of the Sneffels Range, the residence masterfully balances scale with subtlety. “The homesite presented both challenge and opportunity,” say Shane and Laura Jordan, founders of Jordan Architects. “With narrow cul-de-sac access, the home has a quiet curbside presence that opens dramatically once inside.”

The 8,000-square-foot structure is divided into pods separated by interior glass bridges. The resulting formation stretches 200 feet. Five bedrooms, six full and two half baths, and a bunkroom that sleeps ten offer ample space for overnight guests. “The bedrooms all connect to exterior living space,” say the Jordans. “This capitalizes on the beauty of Colorado’s indoor-outdoor lifestyle.”

Built by Finbro Construction, the home features timeless materials that will age gracefully. Dark metal rooflines emulate the surrounding ridgelines. Generous overhangs provide weather protection. Non-repetitive window patterns echo the irregularity of the surrounding forest, and the Kansas limestone adds texture and interest. Exterior materials are also found inside, “creating a natural landscape for interior elements.”

The kitchen anchors the open floor plan that flows to the dining area, wet bar, great room, and gracious living space. “To achieve a look of comfortable sophistication, I incorporated the owners’ favorite color, navy,” says Robin Miller, owner and designer at Evoke Interiors. “Organic, low-profile seating is enhanced with white, layered textiles, adding a sense of luxury.”

A unique focal point is a custom John Pomp multi-pendant chandelier, which highlights the floating staircase. “Finishes, textures and accents came into play when designing each personal space,” Miller says. Work and play receive equal consideration in the dwelling’s design. His and her offices, a media room featuring a custom ping-pong table, a wet bar and plush seating for watching sports, are among the amenities.

The east wing of the home houses an extraordinary, all-glass exercise room that makes any workout an immersive nature experience. Surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows, the gym enables the owners to observe breathtaking views of the terrain and wildlife. They say, “There is nothing like the privilege of watching a herd of elk move through the aspens.”This residence is a true design collaboration and represents an organic relationship with the topography. “We built this home to honor the character and beauty of Telluride,” say the occupants. “It feels just exactly right.”
