Words from the Artists Behind Rusty Parrot’s Iconic Art Pieces
Artists Kathryn Turner and Scott Christensen help continue the Rusty Parrot’s Western legacy through their art.
For decades, the Rusty Parrot has stood as an iconic symbol of Western hospitality in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. After a devastating fire in 2019 severely damaged the lodge, an inspired artistic revival emerged. Throughout the newly restored hotel, the design team carefully crafted spaces that pay tribute to the Harrison family—the lodge’s owners—and their extensive art collection.
We sat down with renowned artists Kathryn Turner and Scott Christensen to discuss their works featured in this remarkable restoration.

“What an honor it is to have my work included in the newly rebuilt Rusty Parrot Hotel. Hotels hold a special place in a community, and this one is truly iconic in Jackson Hole. After the fire, it took a remarkable team of visionaries, creators and builders to bring it back—and I was grateful to be part of that process. Collaboration is my favorite way to work, and this project brought together some of the very best.
With the Harrison family leading the way—brilliant art collectors with a clear vision and deep commitment to quality—WRJ designers and I curated a collection of artwork that reflects the inspiration of Jackson Hole in a timeless way. I love what we selected for the portfolio and how beautifully it complements the Harrisons’ broader collection throughout the hotel.
A heartfelt thanks to The Photo Touch printers, who produced each giclée with state-of-the-art techniques and top-tier framing. Now when I visit—for a spa treatment, a meal at Sage, or just a cup of tea—I’m reminded of the thoughtful design, craftsmanship and teamwork that brought the Rusty Parrot back to life.”

Many paintings I have done over my career have been inspired by all of my years exploring the great outdoors of Wyoming. It’s an incredible state, with endless inspiration. As I progress in this painting craft, I realize experience and observation in nature are of the utmost importance.
