MOUNTAIN CHILDHOOD
My dad was captain of the Ouray Mountain Rescue Team when I was growing up. That’s where my early experiences in the mountains and nature started. I remember playing in the alpine, above tree line. We did a lot of camping up there. And then it just grew—I got into skiing, rock climbing, rafting and whitewater sports. I really thrived in outside environments. It was mentally invigorating for me to be outside, and I knew that I needed to choose a life path that kept that sense of adventure at the forefront.
PHOTOGRAPHY AND AWE
When you immerse yourself in nature, and you’re out at these beautiful times of day—whether it’s sunrise or sunset, or approaching storms, or a clearing storm—whatever it may be, nature produces magic for us. And photography has always been a way for me to really be present. It’s a forceful way for me to sit down and just be in awe of it all.
RECONNECTING WITH NATURE
I shoot with a medium-format camera system. The process of taking pictures with this camera is very slow. It brings me back to being able to be present within nature, which is honestly why I’m out there in the first place—to be grounded and let nature flow through myself. My goal is to help people reconnect with how beautiful nature really is, and the magic that it provides for us every single day if we slow down long enough to embrace it.
