A Compact Ski-In Ski-Out Home with Mountain Modern Features
Medicine Rock's new luxury residential area dazzles with several homes, including the Elk Camp Residence
The Elk Camp Residence is one of several homes in Medicine Rock, a new luxury residential area which connects to Whitefish Mountain. This home’s lot is smaller and required a compact, elegant solution for a ski-in ski-out residence. Our client and longtime partner in Whitefish, Montana—Bear Mountain Builders—was interested in developing mountain modern homes which are so popular in ski areas right now.
The entire front wall of the home is windows to take advantage of the mountain views and make the relatively small home feel larger. The design incorporates structural steel collar ties to simplify the structure. The structural steel collar ties bring scale to the interior and set an architectural rhythm for the interior of the residence, as well as tie into the design of the window mullions.
Great Room
The open floor plan design was used to create as much volume in the small footprint as possible. This feature, which allows for communal eating dining and living is so popular in today’s contemporary style of living. The structural collar ties bring a sense of scale to the tall space and simplify the structure, uniting the interior and exterior design.
Fireplace
The steel-paneled fireplace reflects the simplicity and elegance of the overall design. The window doubles as natural light and a frame for a natural landscape which comes across as a large-scale piece of artwork.
Mud Room
The multi-purpose mud room is a simple open space with natural light from the exterior focused on the storage of skis, snowboards, and boots. Clean lines and minimalism were a popular request.
