This Vail Home Feels Like a Boutique Hotel

Multiple master suites and uninterrupted views make this mountain modern home in Vail, Colorado, a truly luxurious retreat. The owners desired a place where three generations of family could vacation together, with an overflow of plush comfort, numerous spots to congregate, and endless views of the mountain serenity beyond.

The home’s exterior features contemporary lines, mountain-inspired textures like limestone and barnwood, and a metal roof. Tall, see-through, wood enclosures bookend the architecture and invite even more views into a handful of interior spaces: the library, pantry and master bathroom sinks, to name a few.

Board-form concrete walls punctuate the home’s entry steps.

A grand stairwell greets family members and guests upon entry. Floating steps and a double-sided fireplace preserve the home’s openness and immaculate sight lines. The “grandparents’ suite” sits on the main level. Upstairs are numerous master suites for the owners’ grown children to feel right at home, and downstairs is a recreation area and two bunk rooms for the grandkids.

Rustic walnut flooring anchors the view from the dining room, where antler chandeliers and mid century-style furnishings add mountain-modern flair. Inserts in the wooden accent wall feature the homeowner’s collection of glass-blown bowls; each is under-lit by an LED light to create a flickering effect.

The open-concept layout between the kitchen, dining and living spaces makes for easy family gatherings, as well as intimate get-togethers.

The limestone and steel fireplace anchors the great room; ample seating creates a cozy retreat.

Fumed larch cabinet doors, quartzite slabs and stainless steel appliances take center stage in the clean-lined kitchen.

Each of the two bunk rooms sleeps eight people. With built-ins, simple color palettes and more sophisticated style, each bunk room is intended to feel like a comfortable spot for grandchildren or adult guests on a ski weekend getaway.

Some of the materials incorporated into the recreation lounge hail from the owners’ previous home—an homage to their family history and a reminder of the importance of spending time together. The room leads to an outdoor living space.

The back deck looks out onto a golf course and boasts a fire pit, outdoor living room with a fireplace, and a dining area—the perfect al fresco gathering space for reunions of family and friends.
