The Importance of Proportion in Home Design
Proportion in interior design can be the deciding factor in not only the room’s visual appeal, but also its functionality.
To make a large-scale kitchen—such as the one pictured—function aesthetically, you must create a human scale while still adding grand elements that will fill the volume of the room. In this room, large custom pendants were designed to help fill the space and create visual interest. It’s important to keep functional scale in mind in any space, as seen in the custom kitchen cabinets, which finish at a useable height.
A great way to create the proper proportions in your space is to consider the room size and ceiling height while planning your room. When selecting a light fixture, consider the ceiling height and style, always keeping in mind how it will fill the space.

Furniture follows a similar principle; consider the size of your room and the other furniture within the space. Decide the focal points of the room; which are the key pieces, and which furniture items are secondary. Remember that color and texture add visual interest to create a cohesive design.
