Recap: 2016 CherryArts Festival at Stanley

The 2016 CherryArts Festival at Stanley was a gathering for art enthusiasts, foodies, and folks of all ages looking for a fun way to spend a beautiful fall weekend in Aurora.

From the Opening Night Grand Tasting to the final hour on Sunday, approximately 10,150 people visited the Festival and previewed the progress of the soon-to-be-opened Stanley Marketplace on the border of Stapleton and Aurora.

The festival, celebrating national art with local flavor, played host to 100 national juried artists. There were plenty of family activities at the Creation Station, a variety of exceptional food trucks and a great lineup of musical groups and performances on the Performance Stage. With nearly perfect fall weather throughout the weekend, the festival was a huge hit!

One special attraction from the 2016 Festival at Stanley was Xolotl: Dios Perro Alebrije Monumental, an art installation created by the great contemporary artist Oscar Becerra-More. This vibrantly colorado papier-mache sculpture incorporated modeled cardboard and stood 14 feet tall! CherryArts was excited to offer this unique art experience, in collaboration with the Mexican Cultural Center of Denver and the Mexican Consulate of Denver.

The City of Aurora held an Art Dedication and Mayoral Proclamation at the entrance of Stanley Marketplace property to dedicate a street mural that was painted by accomplished muralist, Yulia Avgustinovich. Aurora Mayor, Steve Hogan, proclaimed September 18, 2016 as Aurora Art Leads The Way to CherryArts at Stanley Day.

Don’t miss The CherryArts Festival at Stanley next year for a weekend full of fun, food, art and creativity!
