Mountain Modern in Jackson Hole

The sleek but charming interiors of this home are a must-see

Katie Merritt knew she wanted to be an interior designer from a young age. "I grew up in my grandmother’s interior design studio where I spent my summers playing with samples," she says. She worked on her first install at age eight. Good design is in her blood.

In 2004, Merritt started Naytura Designs, Inc. a custom lighting manufacturing company specializing in mountain homes. "There, I honed my love of the mountain modern aesthetic but realized that I had a deep interest in working directly with clients," Merritt notes. 5 years later, she founded KAM Designs which focuses on "turnkey" installations, making her homes move-in ready.

Merritt designed the interiors of this home that has breathtaking views of Sleeping Indian Mountain and Jackson Hole Ski Resort, creating a sleek but charming space full of life. "We kept the chandeliers light in scale to accentuate the views and used 100 year-old reclaimed timbers mixed with modern rift oak sleek cabinetry to maintain that beautiful and subtle mountain modern look," she says.

The homeowners have a young and active family, so Merritt kept the home functional and comfortable. "We designed a home that was truly a beautiful getaway that allows them to enjoy the outdoors, entertain and be together as a family."

The kitchen and great room are connected through an open floor plan, which Merritt favors. "I love that this family can be in one space together, whether sitting near the fire on the couch, cooking something delicious in the kitchen, or watching a football game at the wet bar," she says.

This home's interiors are the picture of mountain design right now. "The combination of rustic material mixed with modern sleek finishes and furnishings are really dominating at the moment," Merritt says.

Merritt and KAM Designs always start with the outdoors, finding ways to bring the natural elements in while keeping a light and modern feel.

The bunkroom is stylish and versatile, sleeping upwards of 4 people with cozy bedding and chic textures.

The home features a theater room, pool table and bar, complete with a shiny faux stag head mounted on the wall, adding rustic glam charm. This home is a vision of mountain modern design.
