Hygge in Wolcott

This interior designer's modern mountain home is a cozy-chic haven

The first thing that comes to mind when looking at this Wolcott home is: cozy. With sleek interiors and chic furnishings, this home is a hygge haven.

The homeowner, interior designer Julie Roitman of Studio XO, was distraught to find many mountain homes of old were dark and heavy. She says, "We wanted to create a mountain modern home with rustic touches to give it that ranch/farmhouse feel."

The 8,700-square-foot home located in Red Sky Ranch in Wolcott sits on the 18^th hole of the Tom Fazio Course. With 5 bedrooms, 7 baths, an open family area/game room, movie theater and hot tub on the back patio, Roitman created an oasis in the mountains for her family.

"We were also going for light and bright and lots of indoor/outdoor living space," she says. The surrounding landscape and nature inspired the interior design, too. "We chose to bring many of the exterior elements into the home as well. There are several interior stone walls. The great room fireplace is another example as well as the flagstone decks, entry and mudroom area."

Roitman's favorite room in the house is the great room. "I love the juxtaposition between indoors and outdoors. The ceilings are so impressive and yet the room itself feels warm and cozy. The glass doors from kitchen to great room completely open and disappear into the walls, which allows you to enjoy the beautiful views of the exterior wether they are open or closed," she notes.

The cozy abode is not without chic accessories, however. Unique chandeliers hang above and art pieces adorn the walls, like the gorgeous Brigitte Bardot photograph in the master bathroom. Roitman says, "I wanted it to be a stunning design while still catering to my large family. We have 4 children, so I wanted it to be comfortable and fun for them too! This will likely end up being our retirement home where the our kids and their children will come to visit."
