Guest Post: Tile talk!

Oh, the infinite possibilities with tile! Interior designer Andrea Schumacher of Denver-based O Interior Design shares her favorite looks, from edgy crocodile-embossed tile to luscious, traditional terracotta.

There are so many unique and beautiful ways to use tile, not to mention all of the amazing new tiles that are being introduced every day! At O Interior Design, we love traditional tiles, but we also love some of the up-and-coming trends that we’re seeing. Some of our favorites are faux-animal-skin tile and textured fabric-like surfaces. We are seeing this amazing porcelain wood floor tile everywhere. It has the authentic look of beautiful wood flooring, but requires far less maintenanceâand is much more sustainable. There are some other great benefits to this product too: It has a low water absorption (unlike real wood, which can warp) and because it’s porcelain, when it’s exposed to sun it can actually absorb heat throughout the day, acting as a floor-warming system throughout winter nights. Plus, with the herringbone pattern, what’s not to love?

We love these dramatic wall installations. The colors within this tile are actually fused into the glass, which prevents any fading or color change over time. Because of the translucent qualities of glass, light gleams through the tile which intensifies its inherent brilliance. There are 18 different color options for this particular tile, which comes in custom sizes and shapes, allowing you to create a one-of-a-kind space.

Want a custom look for your tile floor? Mixing different shapes and sizes of tile to create a ârugâ appearance will give you just that. Or you can have your tile installer cut tiles to custom sizes for an even more unique design.
