Annual Eagles & Ag Weekend Hosts Activities for Wildlife Lovers

January 26-29 ushers in the annual Eagles & Ag weekend in Carson Valley, NV. The event showcases birds, wide open spaces and the season’s new calves. The Eagles & Ag weekend includes an opening dinner, where falconers bring their birds for up-close viewing. Tours of exclusive ranches, a photography workshop and a photo contest, are featured during the event.

The weekend kicks-off with an opening reception and photography exhibit. Photographs taken by area wildlife photographers are on display, and guests can enjoy a glass of wine and appetizers while having an opportunity to meet fellow enthusiasts.

Friday, January 26th, offers a wetlands tour which includes sightings of large numbers of waterfowl and migrant birds. Participants are encouraged to bring their binoculars and cameras to take advantage of the opportunity to spot these glorious creatures.

A leisurely hiking tour is also offered on Friday afternoon. Guides will lead guests on a gentle, local trail along the Carson River to see the habitats of beaver, deer, ducks, geese, fish and pond turtles, and all types of birds.

The Eagles & Ag Falconers Dinner will be at the Civic Hall in downtown Minden on Friday evening. Guests will savor a delicious meal, an exhibit by the Carson Valley Photography Club, and a raffle.

Saturday, January 27th, features an eagle and ranch tour giving guests a behind-the-scenes look at area ranches. Attendees will learn about ranching and conservation in the area and can photograph eagles, hawks, owls and other birds of prey. In the afternoon, the Owl Prowl and Historic Barn Tour will offer guests the chance to visit historic barns and view owl habitats. A falconry demonstration is included. Finally, Saturday will host a photo tour and workshop facilitated by wildlife photographer John Humphrey.

The Sunday, January 20th schedule includes the Raptor Highway and Byway tour. A special Sunday drive around Carson Valley will provide excellent photography opportunities with local stories and lore sprinkled in. Spotting scopes, binoculars and cameras are recommended.

Photographs by previous year’s photo contest winners are displayed on the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce website. Participants will also find registration information and a photo release form for those who wish to enter their photographs in the Eagles & Ag contest.
