THE ARTIST
CAMERA-READY
“I first picked up my dad’s camera in college, and I actually took a course to learn how to use it. That was my introduction to photography, and it was really an ‘aha’ moment, because my father was an engineer and my mother’s an artist, and I feel like I’m pretty 50-50. I have a sort of analytical, technically astute part of my brain, and then I have this creative, whimsical part.”
GOING WITH THE FLOW
“I’m an artist who works predominantly in photography, but I also write music, I also paint. I take that creativity and apply it in other mediums. And I have finally given myself permission to allow the creative process to flow. And if it flows a little bit away from photography and then back again, that’s okay. I feel like I’m a little bit of an oddball, because I am constantly pushing the envelope.”
SNOW SERIES
“I got the helicopter for an hour, and I grabbed a few shots of that series. I love the one where the shadow and the skier are just sort of falling off the page. The moment is so simple.”
THE MIRACLE OF CREATION
“I just keep hoping to put out beautiful work that moves and inspires people in whatever way I can. It’s something that starts as an electrical wave in your brain—or in the hinterland even beyond your brain—and the fact that you have the fortitude to actually make something and present it to the world is incredibly brave, and every time I do it is like a miracle. To me, that’s the miracle of the creative process.”
