A Sun Valley Fishing Cabin You’ll Never Want to Leave
Rustic, romantic, and right on the river—what more could you ask for in a mountain getaway?
This log cabin is the perfect retreat for casting a line, although you don’t have to be a fly-fisherman to fully enjoy its quintessential mountain vibe.
Nestled into a gorgeous Sun Valley site, the three-bedroom cabin was designed to appear as if it has sat there for centuries. The home was handcrafted with Douglas fir timbers, featuring an expansive wraparound covered deck where the owners can sit on rocking chairs with an iced tea in hand, soaking in the stunning views.
A treatment was applied to the logs for an instant weathered patina, and wood cladding was used on the exterior doors and windows. The mining-style light fixtures add extra turn-of-the-century inspiration, and the corrugated rusted metal roof was chosen for its ability to brown naturally.
The old-homestead theme continues inside. The fireplace and chimney were built of rough fieldstone, and a wooden clawfoot tub adorns the master bath. The kitchen boasts open shelving, rough-edge countertops and modern appliances with enamel finish, once again echoing the style of years past (but with all the comforts of modern-day rustic luxury).
