A Jackson Ranch With Killer Views

A 5-bedroom mountain-modern home dedicated to uninterrupted views

There’s a saying attributed to Albert Einstein that warns, “If you can’t explain something simply, you don’t understand it well enough.”  When stunning architecture is involved, expressing the property’s most important amenity—the landscape—is difficult to do in simple forms that pay homage to the site without interrupting the sight lines.

This modern ranch-style home just north of Jackson does just that—the layout boasts a natural flow from room to room while keeping the beautiful vantage points clearly intact.

The entry side of the house faces south, receiving plenty of natural light through the home’s numerous window walls.  The exterior pays homage to Jackson and the area’s mountain-modern vernacular, with wood siding that’s been stained to create a patina of age, as well as regional stone and corrugated rusted metal roofing with cedar shake shingles.

The stairway somehow manages to be both a design focal point of the space and a feature that doesn’t distract from the views. It floats in front of the windows adjacent to the entryway, and allows light to billow into the home. The treads are crafted of oak to match the flooring, and the stringers are made of strong steel to span from the upper landing to the lower level.

The large window walls and 27-foot ceilings in the great room balance a strong structure with sweeping views of the Tetons to the north.

In this retreat of a bedroom, a peaceful ambiance is set as the mountains reflect off the water.
