Seeking a sun-soaked escape, a Colorado couple enlisted designer Anne Lukan to reimagine their 1990s pueblo-style retreat in the heart of Scottsdale, Arizona. Nestled among desert scrub and Saguaro cacti in the shadow of the Pinnacle Peak mountain range, the design team leaned on the existing structure for inspiration to refresh the interior. The home was transformed with a refined desert palette and a reworked layout—the primary suite enlarged, the kitchen redesigned, a balcony converted into a bunk room, and a poolside bedroom repurposed as a breezy casita-style lounge.

Lukan credits the project’s success to two key factors: leading the design from the very beginning and partnering with skilled, knowledgeable craftspeople. For this home, that meant collaborating with experts versed in the intricate demands of authentic Pueblo-style construction, from plasterwork to drywall. “In a house with so many arches and curves,” Lukan says, “attention to detail was required on both a micro and macro level.”

Windows and doors played a pivotal role in the home’s revision. After extensive research, the team chose Marvin for their clean lines, exceptional performance and expansive sizes. Their selection—and more importantly, their placement—were among Lukan’s finest design decisions.

The impact throughout the home is paramount. “The Marvin Modern windows create that uninterrupted visual ‘wow’ moment as you enter,” Lukan notes, “and their slim bronze frames punctuate the architecture without detracting from it—keeping the focus on both the design and the view beyond.” Similarly, expansive Marvin Ultimate doors in the casita lounge set the stage for uncompromised indoor-outdoor living.

The result? A home that truly respects and blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings. The thoughtful marriage of organic Pueblo design with contemporary upgrades creates a renovation that feels both authentic to the locale and deeply personal to the client. At every turn, the architecture invites memorable moments, standing out not by standing apart, but by honoring its landscape and its people.
