5 Interior Design Trends to Watch For in 2016

Everyone knows that design trends come and go, and 2016 is no different. Here’s a rundown of this year’s hottest looks.

1. BRINGING THE OUTDOORS IN
It’s not new to hear about bringing nature into the home. In 2016, consumers will be pushing this concept to the next level. A new trend is to create live wall systems, also known as green walls, within interior spaces. These vertical gardens are a sustainable, durable and low maintenance living wall system which has been noted as reducing stress and improving mental health. They also add a pop of color and freshness to the space.

2. SOURCING LOCALLY MADE ARTISAN GOODS
Who would have thought, but macramé, crochet, basketry, and weaving are back in! These items can be inspired by local finds. Do not be afraid to mix vintage and artisanal items with mass-produced goods, which can be found locally and globally.

3. MINERALS
For the past year, we have seen polished geodes attached to Lucite bases. This year, the minerals will be au natural. Look for big chunks of quartz and unpolished semi-precious stones turned into furniture hardware.

4. GEOMETRIC PATTERNS
Consumers are gravitating towards more geometric patterns that feature fluid movement. The use of the patterns in a variety of places will add cohesiveness, yet interest to a space. Whether it’s a backsplash, an intricately patterned floor, a countertop or a cool pillow, fluid geometry is coming in strong.

5. MIX METALLICS AND METALS
The 1950s and 1970s are not only influencing the fashion design industry, they are reaching the interior design market as well. Midcentury Modern with brass, gold and metallic finishes will remain a hot item. Get ready to embrace some retro bling!
