THE ARTIST: Bridgette Meinhold

BEST KNOWN FOR: Dream like encaustic landscape images of mountains and forests.

INSPIRATION: "Nature by far is my greatest influence," Meinhold says. "I spend as much time as I can outdoors—hiking, skiing, biking, climbing or just sitting listening to the wind through the trees, watching the clouds pass by and observing how the light changes."

THE ALLURE OF PARK CITY: "I like to think Parka City chose me instead of the other way around," says Meinhold. "Everything fell into place as is wont to do when the universe wants you to be in a specific place."

PROCESS: Basing her imagery on real places and experiences, Meinhold describes her work as "trying to preserve memories in wax." Starting with a wood panel, she builds up layers of wax, painting trees and mountains in milk paint, and then adding more wax. She scrapes, fuses and heats the wax between layers to create a smooth, uniform finish.

MOUNTAIN MOODS: "Without the mountains, my work would not exist," Meinhold says. "I believe that art and creativity provide a portal into nature and a way to heal our souls. Experiencing the outdoors is the only thing that makes me feel like a whole person, and Iwant to help others find this peace."

WHAT'S NEXT: "Bridgette Meinhold and Joe Norman: New Works" opens at Park City's Gallery Mar on November 28, 2014.
