What You'll Find in the 2016 Designer Show House

The 2016 Western Design Conference, from September 8-11, 2016, will bring together artists, scholars, collectors, interior designers, architects and fashion designers with a passion for the West. The show highlights the best of home design, fashion and American craft inspired by the spirit of the West.

Mountain Living is proud to present the Designer Show House at the 2016 Western Design Conference, sponsored by Deanna Briggs of RE/MAX Obsidian Real Estate, with exterior construction by B & B Builders.

Here’s a sneak peek at what you’ll find in the 2016 Designer Show House from the designers and their inspirations:

Deanna Briggs

The Designer Show House is sponsored by Deanna Briggs of Dream Jackson Hole and RE/MAX Obsidian Real Estate. Deanna spent most of her early life in New England. She graduated college from Rhode Island School of Design with two degrees: a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She also owned and managed a nationally recognized restaurant in Boston for ten years. During a wine buying trip to Argentina in 2004, she met her husband, Nick. After enjoying several vacations in Jackson Hole, the decision to move to Wyoming was an obvious one. Jackson Hole not only provided world-class skiing and activities, but it is also offered a small, friendly community, making it an ideal place to raise her two wonderful daughters. Deanna is committed to providing excellent customer service. Her architectural background gives both sellers and buyers an experienced eye to help visualize their dreams.

Brian Boggs Chairmakers
The 2016 Front Porch at the Designer Show House is front-porch living reimagined. Brian Boggs Chairmakers’ exhibit blends the warmth of handmade wooden furniture with contemporary comfort and curves. The selection of Sunniva furniture represents the best in ergonomics without the need for cushions or padding, simply direct lumbar support and pleasing angles in every design.

The Sunniva Collection provides a durable, yet elegant solution for outdoor furniture. Inspired by the flowing curves and balance of timber frame architecture, Sunniva designs capture the attributes of old-growth Honduran mahogany; inherently decay and insect resistant. Combined with fully housed joinery, stainless steel hardware, and a novel stop-cut lamination process, Sunniva fills a niche as one of the most durable collections on the market.

Brian Boggs has spent nearly 35 years handcrafting authentic American furniture. From traditional Appalachian designs to functional contemporary art, his original furnishings combine the best of traditional woodworking with modern production. All Brian Boggs Chairmakers’ furniture is made to order in Asheville, North Carolina using sustainably sourced domestic hardwoods and imported mahogany. Serving both private and commercial clients, each collection is crafted under heirloom quality standards to provide generations of use.

Agnes Bourne Studio

From the first visit of Thomas Moran to the present, Jackson Hole has been a magnet for creative arts. What is the magic? Some say that the beauty of the mountains and the fresh air stimulate imagination and vision. Others refer to the spiritual energy of the environment.

Agnes Bourne Studio will design the “Flying West in Summer” foyer in the Designer Show House. Celebrating art of today in Jackson, the room is filled with objects new and repurposed to create a lively, welcoming space introducing a home filled with ideas and reflections.

Since the 1970’s Agnes Bourne, ASID, has worked with artists and designers to create spaces and products that inspire creativity and support full self-expression. Clients discover ways to express their true passions and fulfill their dreams. Christopher Kennedy

Christopher will design the Salon in the 2016 Designer Show House. Directly adjacent to the entry all, this Salon will be reminiscent of classic receiving rooms, where gracious homeowners would meet and entertain their guests. Reimagining nostalgic, often East Coast, traditions in a modern Western way is a trademark of Christopher's brand and aesthetic.

“A golden state of mind” describes Christopher’s philosophy towards design and life. Combining Jet Set nostalgia with California modernism, Christopher’s work has been featured in Dwell Magazine, Luxe, California Homes, Coastal Living, Traditional Home, and The Los Angeles Times. From his base in Palm Springs, Christopher also creates an eponymous furniture line, a candle line, and several licensed collaborations.  His first monograph, California Modern, was released in Fall 2015. His next book, Making Midcentury Modern, will debut at Modernism Week 2017.

Each year, in conjunction with Modernism Week, Christopher organizes and produces the only Decorator Showcase House in Palm Springs, featuring rooms by today’s biggest names in design. The Christopher Kennedy Compound attracts over 4,000 guests in 10 days, and grosses nearly $100,000 for Modernism Week’s education and preservation efforts.

Born in San Francisco and raised on California's Central Coast, Christopher brings a synthesis of big-city style and relaxed resort living to his work. Easy elegance and exuberant sophistication are hallmarks of Christopher's style.

Harker Design

Modern mountain living is exemplified in the kitchen and dining area designed by Harker Design and built by Woodland.  The bright, range wall cabinets contrast beautifully with the dark, textured  walnut frame surrounding them.  The transitional island features a walnut, waterfall top with a fluted, wire-brushed front and stunning, cerused-oak finish on the back. The drawers serve as innovative storage space with current organizational accessories. Hand-forged iron pendants hang above.  The dining area features a faceted-pedestal dining table with built-in, upholstered banquette seating.

Alley Modern & More

Cheryl Frey of Alley Modern and More will create a mid-century modern living area filled with classic and timeless designers such as Knoll, George Nelson, Eames and Brueur with art to accompany from Fritz Scholder, Agam and more. The room will exemplify her eye for design along with her background in art education and art management with unique and definitive pieces. Frey focuses on her ability to assist those who are looking to have a more personal approach in creating a home that is an extension of their personality. Frey aims to show how Alley Modern & More can fuse this important movement with traditional western design by focusing on objects versus form.

Kibler & Kirch

The bedroom and library spaces in the Designer Show House are designed by Kibler & Kirsch. Since 1990, Kibler & Kirch’s mission has been to enrich customers’ lives through their home. They specialize in comfortable and timeless designs across a spectrum of styles. Kibler & Kirch stocks an eclectic collection of American-made furnishings, artwork, accessories, handmade rugs, lighting, bedding, and gifts.

Forsyth & Brown

The Media Room is designed by the nationally recognized firm Forsyth & Brown. For over 19 years the Jackson-based interior design business has been creating timeless interiors that merge periods, genres, and styles in homes across the country. In the Media Room, state-of-the-art technology is carefully blended with a sophisticated mix of contemporary and rustic furnishings to create a room that is as warm and inviting as it is elevated in automation. Xssentials, Inc. installed an extensive, but easy-to-control system that integrates lighting, music, and television for an impactful environment.

Utilizing a vast selection of sources that includes local artisans, national showrooms, and international vendors, Forsyth & Brown ensures that every project is as individual and unique as each homeowner. The large artist-created digital print anchors the room establishing the intersection of a curated and collected simplicity. The one-of-a-kind artisan crafted coffee table by David Stine Woodworking grounds the room in both power and elegance. Custom draperies and pillows combined with a sisal rug are the decorative elements that soften this high-tech gathering area. Understated elegance is the hallmark of Forsyth & Brown, and The Media Room exemplifies the firm’s commitment to individual and classic interiors.
