Riverwalk First Fridays 2016 series Opens with Hazel Miller
Vail Jazz kicks off with big soul at The Riverwalk
No excuses are necessary to make a celebration out of a Friday afternoon, especially as summer is finally getting underway. Like many other artistic communities across the country, Edwards is once again primed to make the first Friday of the month extra special throughout the summer.
First Fridays return to the Riverwalk Backyard Amphitheatre in Edwards beginning at 5 pm June 3 with free live music and a vendor booth bonanza featuring Crazy Mountain beer, wine and tasty local specialties from Taco Rico and Loaded Joe’s.
Gates and vendors open at 5 pm, and music kicks off at 6 pm with soul queen Hazel Miller. A Colorado favorite for a whopping three decades, Miller was a featured artist at last year’s Vail-Beaver Creek World Alpine Ski Championships and is famous for, as she would say in her booming and contagious voice, getting the good times rollin’. It’s rare that any one member of her audience isn’t tapping a foot or enthusiastically dancing along!
Presented by Alpine Bank and Kaiser Permanente, and produced by Vail Jazz and KZYR 97.7 The Zephyr, Riverwalk First Fridays debuted last summer, attracting families, passing cyclists, shoppers, and happy hour-seekers that multiplied with each event from June through September. Organizers are expecting big things for the 2016 series launch!
“The goal from the beginning with Riverwalk First Fridays was to utilize this ideal new, beautiful music venue in a way that showcased the best that our community has to offer,” says Vail Jazz Development Manager Owen Hutchinson. “We’re thrilled to see that the series has become one of the valley’s best ways to kick back and usher in the weekend.”
Mark your calendars for the first Friday of June, July, August, and September for an evening of food, music and good company. Admission is free!
