Galloping Goodies Horse Treats Recipe
Developed by the Linn family

Horse treats inspired by Munro’s mother’s recipe—she made them from spent grain at the Snake River Brewing (founded by Munro’s family). | Photo by Lisa Flood
My mom developed this recipe as a way to reuse the spent grain from the brewpub my family founded. She sold the horse cookies at our local farmers market.
INGREDIENTS
1⁄2 cup grated carrots 2 cups cooked barley 1 cup cracked corn
2 cups rolled oats
2 cups oat bran
1 cup whole-wheat flour
1 1⁄4 cups apple juice
1⁄2 cup molasses, add more as needed 1 1/3 cups white flour
METHOD
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl, combine all ingredients, adding more molasses if needed so that the mixture can be formed into 2-inch discs. Place on cookie sheets one inch apart. Bake cookies for 20 minutes, then rotate and cook for another 20 minutes. Let dry overnight before packaging.
Yields 30-32, 2 inch cookies
