A haven for live music and mountain enthusiasts, Vail Jazz Festival has so far delivered some world-class performances this summer. With musical genres ranging from traditional jazz, salsa, blues, Latin bebop and even gypsy jazz, festgoers have witnessed first-hand jazz’s hypnotic diversity and deeply-rooted history. 

With plenty more to showcase this season, here is a peek at some of the headlining shows scheduled for August.

Jon Cleary: Tribute to Henry Butler & The New Orleans Piano Traditions

After spending 35 years in New Orleans, Jon Cleary has established himself as a valuable asset in the jazz world. Cleary uses his bluesy voice and keyboarding talents to perform Big Easy-inspired tunes, paying tribute to pioneers of the genre like Henry Butler, Dr. John, and Allen Toussaint.

Veronica Swift Featuring The Emmet Cohen Trio

Although a newcomer in the jazz community, Veronica Swift is certainly proving her place amongst elite jazzists with her wide vocal range and musical interpretations. Joining her onstage is The Emmet Cohen Trio, who will support her ranging voice with their top-notch piano playing techniques.

A few buzzwords come to mind when envisioning a classic jazz musical performance, and Catherine Russell embodies this nostalgic sound with her raspy, heartfelt and memorable serenading. Head to Vail Square for a show that pays homage to old-school jazz tunes.
