There is something extraordinary about Labor Day Weekend in Vail. As summer gives way to autumn, the mountains provide the perfect backdrop for one of Colorado’s most beloved musical traditions, the 32nd Annual Vail Jazz Festival, taking place September 4–6, 2026.

For more than three decades, the Vail Jazz Festival has brought together legendary performers, rising stars, and devoted music lovers for three unforgettable days of world-class jazz. Unlike a traditional concert series, the Festival is built around collaboration. Acclaimed artists who perform on the world’s greatest stages come together in unique ensembles, spontaneous jam sessions, and one-of-a-kind performances that audiences simply cannot experience anywhere else.

Under the intimate Discover Vail Jazz Tent at Manor Vail Lodge, listeners are treated to an up-close musical experience with breathtaking views of Vail Mountain. From powerful tributes to jazz icons and dynamic all-star collaborations to the beloved Sunday Gospel Show, every performance celebrates the creativity, spontaneity, and joy that define jazz.

This year’s lineup features an exceptional collection of artists, including John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton, Sean Jones, Terell Stafford, Wycliffe Gordon, Lewis Nash, Bill Cunliffe, Cyrus Chestnut, Camille Thurman, Niki Haris, Tim Green, Joel Frahm, Bobby Floyd, Mitch Forman, Rodney Whitaker, Steve Kovalcheck, Tadataka Unno, Jon Hamar, Drew Zaremba, Darrell Green, Lyndon Rochelle, Jerohn Garnett, and The Fortitude Ensemble. Together, they will present an unforgettable weekend of performances spanning the many styles and traditions of jazz.

Among the Festival’s highlights are special centennial tributes honoring three of jazz’s most influential figures, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Ray Brown, celebrating their enduring impact on the music and the generations of artists they continue to inspire. Festival favorites also return, including Niki Haris’ uplifting Gospel Show and Wycliffe Gordon’s spirited New Orleans-style performance, both audience traditions that have become synonymous with Labor Day Weekend in Vail.

The Festival is also deeply connected to the future of jazz through the nationally acclaimed Vail Jazz Workshop. Throughout the week leading up to the Festival, twelve of the country’s most talented high school jazz musicians study alongside world-renowned faculty in an intensive educational residency. Festival audiences have the unique opportunity to witness these remarkable young artists perform alongside their mentors, experiencing firsthand the next generation of jazz excellence.

Presented by Vail Jazz, the Festival reflects the organization’s mission to perpetuate jazz through world-class performances and educational programs that inspire audiences and nurture future musicians. Every ticket purchased helps support year-round education initiatives, including Vail Jazz Goes to School, Jammin’ Jazz Kids, the Vail Jazz Workshop, and the Tony G. Rising Star Awards.
