Colorado Meets Kentucky With Relaxed Rustic Style
Contemporary style meets traditional rustic Colorado charm in this home—except it isn’t in the Rocky Mountains. The homeowners teamed up with home designers who typically work in the American West to bring a little bit of relaxed rustic to their Kentucky retreat, situated on a golf course in Bowling Green.
The couple had visions of Colorado-inspired “relaxed rustic” elegance, with a timeless design and ample outdoor living space, for their retirement home setting. Timber framing was a no-brainer, according to the homeowners. Their love for the “open expression of the timbers and the varied roof lines” moved them to collaborate with Canadian Timberframes and Colorado-based Kelly & Stone Architects, to bring their dream to fruition.
Varied, low pitch roof lines were used to give an up-to-date spin on the traditional rustic style, with wooden slopes juxtaposed against the rolling greens of the golf course for a truly outstanding design.
And yet, “the timbers have an antique feel,” says Jeff Bowes, President and Owner of Canadian Timberframes. “They have a circle-sawn rough finish to them, complemented by the stained T&G ceiling.”
The 3,020-square-foot main level includes a great room, dining room, mud/laundry room, and a screened-in porch off the kitchen, leading to an expansive wrap-around deck. Also on the main floor are the impressive “master quarters,” with two separate bathrooms, two separate walk-in closets, and its own screened-in porch.
Just an elevator ride away is the 2,720-square-foot lower level, which boasts a sports room, recreation room, family room, two bedrooms each with en-suite bathrooms, and a powder room.
