Barclay Butera’s Favorite Things

A look at what the design guru is lovely lately, from charming Parisian hotels to upscale luggage

BEST BEDDING
I might be a tad prejudice, but my own line for Eastern Accents is truly my favorite. Their quality is unsurpassed. I happen to love the crisp navy blue and white Summerhouse collection this time of year.

DESIGN IDOL
In our industry I have so many friends and colleagues that inspire, but the one who is heads and tails above the rest is Bill Sofield. He’s a genius and a genuinely nice man.

HOTEL HOT SPOT:
Hotel Costes in Paris is an all-time favorite. It’s both energizing and relaxing at the same time.

WHAT’S IN MY CLOSET
I happen to be in a very John Varvatos mood these days. His sweaters fit me really well, they are not overwhelming, and his jackets are incredible. His style is kind of rugged but still elegant. And I have started collecting Valentino tennis shoes; they are super chic and so comfortable for travel. The camo ones are the best!

WHAT I COLLECT

My Park City home has the coolest antler art from the Black Forest in Germany; Hermes belts; and I also have a thing for vintage Louis Vuitton.

TREND TALK
To be honest I am not really a trend guy. But I do think that blue and white is always right, that is one classic style that never tires. And I am not sure if it’s a “trend” but over-saturated primary colors make my skin crawl.

I CAN’T TRAVEL WITHOUT
My Goyard bag with good eye drops, my Shiseido sunscreen and my Le Labo Santal 33 fragrance keep me feeling civilized with all the air travel I do.

EVERY HOME NEEDS
Incredible art. It’s the most personal reflection of a client’s taste.

FAVORITE PARK CITY RESTAURANT
Riverhorse On Main
hands down. The food is phenomenal, I love the live music, and the rustic- modern setting suits me just fine.

ARTIST CRUSH
Lately I have been tripping over Jill Pumpelly.

GO-TO PAINT COLOR
I cannot get enough of Dunn Edwards Sparkling Frost. It is a crisp, refreshing blue to die for.

READING MATERIAL

Good to Great by James Collins is a must read for any business owner.

ON MY WISH LIST
I have been eyeing property in Palm Springs lately again. I had the distinct privilege of owning Twin Palms (Frank Sinatra’s home) a few years back and regret selling it. So I’d have to say a desert retreat is definitely on my wish list.
