A Quiet Cabin On the Shores of Priest Lake, Idaho
Beautiful views abound from every room of this lakefront retreat.
This lakefront cabin nestled on the shores of Priest Lake in Northern Idaho was a serious upgrade from the original home on the property, which was outdated and set far off the beach. The placement and design layout of the home didn’t work for the owners and wasn’t very energy efficient. So, they decided to start from scratch.
The owners’ “cabin on the lake” wish list included an exterior with a rustic yet refined vibe with cedar, stone, and timbers. Also high on the list of priorities: A connection to the outdoors, with lake views from all the major rooms, along with outdoor living spaces.
The new cabin dons a mountain architectural style with beveled cedar siding and stone accents. Instead of a timber frame structure, the home employs post-and-beam construction, and the windows are aluminum clad, with alder wood interiors.
The home boasts four bedrooms and a large game room and sleeping loft. The beach level is comprised of a boat garage with plenty of room for other storage, as well as a family room and two bedrooms. Down below, there is also a mudroom and an outdoor shower.
The main entry level has an intimate dining and kitchen area, along with a master suite with beautiful views across the lake.
A soaring living room with recessed bookcases and overhead timber trusses—two flanking a two-story fireplace—shares space with the upper loft.
The living room and dining space both have access to a large deck, held up by timber posts and knee braces, wrapping around to the front of the cabin.
The lake views out of these spaces are breathtaking.
While it’s only the third-largest lake in North Idaho behind Lake Pend Oreille and Lake Coeur d’Alene, Priest Lake is still 26,000 acres, or about 41 square miles. All three of these lakes produce some of the biggest trout in the country, along with kokanee, bass, and others. Priest Lake is the more forested of the three and much more tranquil—making it a true rustic wonderland, and the perfect site for a mountain home.
