A $600 Million Snowmass Expansion

Goodbye, 2017-2018 ski season, and hello, new Base Village!

It was sad to say goodbye to the 2017-2018 ski season in one of my favorite resorts, Snowmass, last week. But after participating in a hard-hat tour of the $600 million Snowmass Base Village expansion, I’m counting the days to its opening in November 2018.

The largest mountain resort development project under construction in North America, this thoughtfully planned village will provide more common areas, including a skating rink, as well as restaurants, hotels and condominiums.

The tour included a peek at the newest addition to the stable of Limelight Hotels. (Currently there are Limelight Hotels in nearby Aspen and in Ketchum, Idaho.)

We stayed at the lovely Viceroy Snowmass to preview its recent $4 million in enhancements, including a new restaurant and lobby coffee shop. With its saline Japanese plunge, the Viceroy’s spa is the perfect remedy for tired muscles after skiing. Humidifiers in the rooms, a carafe of water placed bedside at turndown service, and the hotel’s “intuitive” service—catering to guests’ needs before they know they need something—place the Viceroy on my list of favorite hotels.
