4 Ways to Take a Wyoming Spring Break

It's never too early to start planning your spring getaway

Want to have a little fun during spring break? Break out the skis, goggles and swim trunks and go wild in Wyoming.

1. Spring Skiing at Jackson

This Northwest Wyoming town makes a great ski getaway because there are multiple ski areas here. There’s Snow King Mountain Resort, Grand Targhee Resort and perhaps the most famous of the bunch, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

You’ll want to bring your skis but there’s lots of off-slope entertainment too. Whether it’s the Taste of Teton Village (March 13), live music or the Jackson Hole Rendezvous Festival (March 26-28), there is always something happening in Jackson, Wyoming.

2. Snowmobile the Snowies

There are more than 200 miles of groomed trails in the Snowy Range, and another 120 miles of marked ungroomed trails. Not to mention, this gorgeous remote area receives more than 300 inches of snow per year.

Snowmobilers can stay in nearby Laramie or the tiny town of Centennial. With so many trails to choose from, everyone from the newbie to the professional will find terrain perfect for their taste. Temperatures in the Snowies are cold, even in March, so packing a face shield is smart.

Bikes are popular in Lander and fat tire bikes mean that cycling is a year-round sport. Take your bike to Sinks Canyon State Park, southwest of Lander, to enjoy some of the beautiful views. The lack of crowds is just one aspect that makes this area unique.

The Bus Loop is another popular Lander fat bike destination. There is also a network of trails at Johnny Behind the Rocks (yes, that’s the name). If something super tame is what you’re looking for, hit the Lander Municipal Golf Course. Here, a 2.5-mile loop has recently been created for fat bikes, walkers and snowshoers. Just stay away from the cross-country ski trails.

Bike shops are easy to find in Lander. Ask an employee for details on where to go and you’ll have tons of fun in Wind River Country on a fat bike.

4. Hot Springs in Saratoga

What is the perfect activity after enjoying a day of snow play? Hot springs of course, and Wyoming has a few. An extremely family-friendly spot is Saratoga. This tiny town is home to Saratoga Resort & Spa and the Hobo Hot Pool, a local’s favorite. It is not home to any stop lights, something the locals are proud to say.

Saratoga Resort offers a hot springs pool as well as smaller hot springs pools hidden beneath teepees. The kids will love the pool while mom and dad enjoy a couple’s massage at the spa. It’s a winning combination. The resort also offers an onsite brewery, onsite dining and fitness center.

The Hobo Hot Pool, located in town, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Plus, it is free. There is a bathhouse complete with showers and restroom facilities all maintained by the Town of Saratoga.

The pool is hot, between 106 degrees and 119 degrees fahrenheit. The Saratoga Municipal Swimming Pool is located adjacent to the Hobo Pool and is open from late May to early September.
