Location: Whitefish Lake, Montana Cozy Factor: A 28-foot-tall fireplace is the undisputed star of this great room. “You have to stand in front of it to really get a sense of the scale,” says residential designer Lyndon Steinmetz. “The firebox alone is five-and-a-half feet tall; a person could walk right into it.” Because some of the stones weigh more than two tons, they had to be lowered into place by a crane. At the homeowners’ request, interior designer Hunter Dominick infused the rustic room with some formality: a luxe leather sofa and gold-leafed side table face a towering stone fireplace flanked by oversized hickory chairs.
