10 New Eateries in Breckenridge

I’ve been visiting Breckenridge for more than a decade, and it’s always been a good place for a great hamburger, delicious steak and awesome pizza. But with the opening of a handful of new restaurants, the town is definitely moving in a more “foodie” direction.
Breckenridge Distillery Restaurant, opened in late 2016, helped kick off this culinary craze. The restaurant serves up eclectic farm-to-table cuisine at 9,600 feet above sea level. With items like beet salad with lavender and chicken liver mousse, Breckenridge Distillery Restaurant has helped move this mountain town’s culinary expectations to the next level.

On our last visit to Breckenridge, for Big Beers in January, we visited one of Main Street’s newest gourmand destinations, Belle V. In a recent article for HeidiTown.com I described the restaurant’s milieu as “a bit of Paris meets Colorado mountain town.” The owners wanted to create a French restaurant that didn’t come with any of the pretentious stereotypes associated with French cuisine, and I believe they’ve accomplished their mission.
Belle V. is warm and inviting, and the food is delicious. It arrives as small plates so that you can share with your fellow diners. Start with a freshly made baguette and escargot, and work your way through salads, seafood and meats such as Cote de Porc et Champignons, dry aged pork chop with wild mushrooms, triple brie and a mustard cream sauce (this was one of our favorites).
Ask your waiter about the perfect wine pairing with your dinner; this is a French restaurant after all, so wine should be part of the affair. Punctuate your dining experience with one of Belle V.’s scrumptious desserts. We chose two scoops of salted caramel gelato, which was a nice way to finish a savory meal.
Several more ethnically inspired restaurants have recently opened in Breckenridge. Artisan 206’s menu is the result of Chef Samir Muhammad's travels around the world. Not only is he a world traveler, but Chef Mohammad was also named as Denver Westword’s Best Rising Chef in 2012.
On Artisan 206’s menu, next to the Chicken & Waffles, you’ll find Ma Po Tofu and Moroccan Braised Bison Ribs. Dishes here are served family-style, so bring a friend. The restaurant, featuring wood and iron details, is located at 206 N. Main Street.
Doma 1898 is another new kid on the block in downtown Breckenridge. Located at 207 S. Main Street, they are open for breakfast and dinner and have already gained a reputation for their large portions and game-inspired entrees such as duck, rabbit and venison. Like their sister restaurant in Frisco, Bread & Salt, there’s a touch of Spanish flair to the menu at Doma 1898.
If you’re looking for Vietnamese food in Breckenridge, Pho Real opened in 2016, and Pho on Main opened in 2017. And, after a dry spell, Thai food is back in Breckenridge in the form of Bangkok Happy Bowl, a Colorado-based chain.
Tiki Mana Island Grill
The new Tiki Mana Island Grill brings a taste of Hawaii to Breckenridge with items such as ahi poke tacos, poke bowls and traditional tiki entrees. Pair your meal with a pink drink and you’ll be in tropical heaven. Tiki Mana recently opened a second location in Aspen.
If you have a craving for Lebanese food in Breckenridge, visit one of the four food carts in town. Gnarly Shawarma, at 327 N. Main Street has authentic Lebanese baked goods, sandwiches, meat on a stick and more.
While Breckenridge has long been home to one of my favorite little Italian joints, Giampietro Pizza & Pasta, a few more Italian options have joined the food scene in town. Legends Steaks & Italian on Ridge Street serves up USDA Prime beef and Italian dishes from Chef Jeremy Caprari. Piantè Pizzeria, also new, is family-owned and plant-based. They specialize in wood-fired, New York pizza.
