Vail Symposium Summer 2016 Season is Underway
20 events remain this summer
The Vail Symposium’s 45th summer season has already hosted five programs, drawing sellout crowds and stirring local conversations on important issues. Much like the remaining days of summer, there is much more to come.
This season in total will host 25 events with 44 speakers, one of the largest seasons in Vail Symposium history. Of the events, 20 programs and 41 speakers covering geopolitical hot topic issues, subjects of health and wellness and matters of arts and culture are still to come.
“We’ve been pushing the envelope of our organization for the last three years,” said John O’Neill, the Symposium’s Marketing Director. “Whenever we ask our audience what they want from us, we hear again and again, ‘More. More great programs. More speakers. More topics.’ This season meets that demand and will certainly feed the hungry minds of Vail Valley locals and guests.”
Among the many things to look forward to is the launch of the first “Super Panels,” programs of great detail on vital matters led by world-class speakers. The first will be a panel focusing the treatment of cancer led by six doctors and scientists from the University of Michigan’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, an internationally recognized leader in developing future cancer treatments, on July 30. The panel, over two sessions, will share the latest in personalized medicine, precision targeting treatment, immunotherapy, cancer prevention and screening and much more. The second Super Panel will focus on education and welcome, for the first time to the Vail Valley, Sir Ken Robinson on October 14. Sir Ken Robinson’s TEDTalk, “Do Schools Kill Creativity” is the most-viewed TEDTalk of all time. His videos and ideas have reached more than 400 million people around the world. His keynote will then be followed up by a panel discussion from Senator Michael Johnston (D-Denver) and several State Representatives and leaders in Education.
Other programs continue to serve what the community has always loved. Hot topics to come include foreign news correspondent Greg Dobbs detailing the fragile relationship between the United States and Russia, the future of online education, the perils of human trafficking, a Republican v. Democratic debate, how federal laws are limited medical research in marijuana in Colorado and the exploding world of 3D printing.
Don’t miss out on other arts and culture programs like the Vail Symposium Film Series taking place outdoors at the stunning Little Beach Amphitheater at sundown on August 20, August 27 and September 3.
Wellness program include a lecture by Dr. Jandel Allen-Davis on the impact of health and healthcare on your life. Her TEDxTalk at TEDxMileHigh has been praised as one of the most creative approaches to explaining pitfalls in healthcare.
