Outdoor Ice Skating Spots in Colorado
In some ways, ice skating is an old-fashioned winter activity, but it seems to be making a comeback. Today, it’s not uncommon to see temporary ice skating rinks at malls and in downtown areas, but there are a few places where skaters can practice their triple axles on a real frozen pond or lake in Colorado.

Skating is a longtime favorite activity for those lucky enough to live in charming Evergreen, Colorado, just 30 minutes west of Denver. Evergreen Lake’s 8.5 acres of ice features 11 pond hockey rinks and a public skating area. It is the world’s largest Zamboni-groomed outdoor ice rink.
Surrounded by trees and mountains, Evergreen Lake makes for a storybook ice skating outing. In addition to the ice rink, the Evergreen Lake House provides snacks and hot chocolate as well as a giant stone fireplace.
After your ice skating excursion, enjoy an upscale dinner at Willow Creek Restaurant at Evergreen Lake or pizza at Colorado’s favorite pizzeria, Beau Jo’s.

Bring your own skates to Frisco and hop on Meadows Creek Pond. The Frisco Public Works Department maintains the ice by removing snow and applying water to the surface as time and resources permit.
The pond is lit until 10 p.m. every day, but skaters must bring their own skates and skate at their own risk, as no one is employed to man the pond.
Frisco is an outstanding winter destination town. In addition to skating at Meadows Creek Pond, Frisco Adventure Park offers families an affordable outing they won’t soon forget. Whether you go tubing, take a sleigh ride or strap on a pair of cross-country skis, this park will keep the entire family entertained.

Many of Colorado’s ski resorts feature outdoor ice skating rinks, and Keystone has not one, but two ice rinks. The 7,200-square foot Dercum Square rink is in the heart of River Run Village and offers day and night skating. There’s a small equipment rental fee, but no rink fee.
Keystone Lake is a larger skating area with five acres where you can practice your bunny hops and camel spins. Warm up inside the onsite Adventure Center, which features an indoor arcade, lounge area and full bar with snacks.
