At-home après-ski 101
It’s 3 o’clock and snowing, and so naturally we’ve got après-ski on the brain. Even if you’re far from the slopes this afternoon, you can still take part in this time-honored high-country tradition. Here’s what you’ll need: 1. A room with a view of the snow—and preferably a cozy fire. This one, featured in our March/April issue, would be perfect:
2. A cozy throw. We love this faux-fur one from Restoration Hardware.
3. A spirited cocktail. This one, created for Element 47, the newly renovated restaurant at Aspen’s The Little Nell hotel by newly minted Master Sommelier Sabato Sagaria, blends warming Colorado whiskey with hints of mint, citrus and cherry. Nachtmann Aspen Smash Ingredients: 2 oz. Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey ½ oz. Leopold Bros. Maraschino Liqueur 6 sprigs of mint 2 lime wedges 1 1/2 oz. sweet and sour* Crushed ice Mint bouquet and lemon wheel for garnish Directions: Fill tumbler to overflowing with crushed ice. In shaker, muddle mint with lime. Add whiskey, maraschino and sweet and sour to shaker. Strain onto crushed ice. Garnish with mint bouquet on top and a lemon wheel on the side of the glass. * Sweet and Sour Ingredients: 1.5 cups hot water 1.5 cups sugar 1 cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice 1 cup fresh-squeezed lime juice Directions: In a large glass pitcher or jar combine all the ingredients and stir. Let cool. 4. A half-hour (at least!) of uninterrupted time to sit back, relax and enjoy!
