A Dazzling World of Light and Art in Snowmass
We could all use a little more light in our lives these days
We could all use a little more light in our lives these days. Now, when the lifts close at Snowmass, things really light up. Snowmass Luminescence, an interactive art and light display presented by Snowmass Tourism and Aspen Snowmass, immerse guests and community members in a dazzling world of light and art.
Skip the Skittles Gondola ride between the Snowmass Mall and Base Village and instead, stroll through The Tunnel, an interactive series of LED illuminated walkways and arches that will ignite the senses.
In addition, experience two large-scale interactive LED installations by acclaimed artists, Submergence by Squidsoup (December 18 – February 28) and Prismatica by Creos and Raw Design (February 1 – February 28).
Snowmass Luminescence runs December 18 through February 28 from sunset to 9 p.m. daily.
SUBMERGENCE BY SQUIDSOUP
December 18 – February 28
Submergence is an art installation that creates an immersive walkthrough experience visualizing virtual form and movement in physical space. The installation transforms space into a hybrid environment where virtual and physical worlds coincide. Participants experience a physically enveloping three-dimensional volume of dynamic digitally mediated light. Once inside, participants are literally immersed in light; it is all around them, above, below and behind.
PRISMATICA BY CREOS AND RAW DESIGN
February 1 – February 28
A modern ice palace. Prismatica turns heads with the countless colorful reflections made by its giant prisms. Visitors can walk among them to see life in every color of the spectrum, and turn the prisms to make the colors dance. After sunset, the enormous interactive kaleidoscope’s illusory effects reach a crescendo.
Prismatica is a participatory installation comprising 25 pivoting prisms more than seven feet tall. Each one is made of panels covered with a dichroic film that reflects the colors of the rainbow, varying with the light source and viewing angle. Each prism is mounted on a base containing a projector that gives the installation a new dimension after nightfall. The rotation of the prisms triggers variable-intensity bell music.
THE TUNNEL
An immersive walking path on snow that provides an alternative to riding the Skittles Gondola between the Snowmass Mall and Base Village. The Tunnel consists of a series of six separate light installations that are each unique in presentation and experience. Five of the six segments are custom programmed with 5-minute light sequences that will take you on a visual journey.
