THE POWER OF THE BRUSH
“Painting is great because it’s so forgiving. Oil paint in particular is so nice to work with. The buttery feel of the paint and the endless color options are very appealing. I love being able to show more expression through a variety of brushstrokes.”
VINTAGE INSPIRATION
“My work is based primarily on found images. I love sifting through secondhand finds and am always hunting for incredible vintage images. Most of these images are of people I’ve never met but find a connection to something in the photo. The images I love most have some kind of authenticity or relatability. I’m also drawn to images with unusual color combinations and fashion choices.”
EVOKING MEMORIES
“Good nostalgia has a very strong emotional connection. I hope that my ski paintings remind people of skiing experiences or memories they may have or want to have. If viewers feel a connection to the colors and style in my paintings that’s wonderful too.”
THE STORY BEHIND THE PAINTING
“I was just drawn to these women on the ski lift in incredibly stylish outfits. The story that I imagine is anticipation of getting to the top with your friends for a beautiful day of skiing. Lots of sunshine reflecting off of the bright snow calls for very cool sunglasses too. I hope my work conveys an appreciation for beauty in the everyday. I try to remind viewers of beautiful places and people from the past that feel familiar or exciting in some way.”
