A Year-Round Vacation Dwelling Built for Entertaining
Elevated design curates a respite for meaningful and memorable gatherings.
The owners of this Victory Ranch mountain retreat in Park City, Utah wanted a vacation home that contained generous space for guests. At 8,200 square feet, the abode has five en-suite-bedrooms, two powder rooms and a bunkroom that sleeps 16. An overnight guest count of 30 is not only feasible, but warm and inviting.
The hillside dwelling combines exterior and interior elements of tumbled stone, Shou Sugi Ban wood paneling, white oak floors and ceilings and marble slabs that emphasize a cohesive, grounded aesthetic. Large windows create a statement, integrating the showstopping beauty of the surrounding terrain.
A mountain modern interior features a neutral palette of black, brown, taupe and cream enlivened by natural textures and layers of impactful pops of color. Says Wendy Blackband, co-owner of California-based Blackband Design, “The space was deliberately crafted, tying together common threads to put the entire look in perspective.”
“Intentionally curated light fixtures serve as jewelry for the home,” says Blackband. “Lighting illuminates and animates each space while ceding center stage to the outdoor views.”
The kitchen features Quartzite countertops in Fantasy Brown, a Sub-Zero refrigerator-freezer, and a Wolf dual fuel range. A Miele built-in coffee station makes preparing morning java a snap. The kitchen island seats five and the adjacent dining table offers seating for 10, giving everyone a spot at the table.
The primary bedroom includes a fireplace, a plush seating area, and luxe bedding and linens for a sanctuary that is alluring. The en-suite bath radiates spa-like energy with clean lines and a neutral palette, letting the views bring the beauty of the natural surroundings inside.
Radiant floor heating ensures all-season comfort. An attached outdoor terrace carves out a private niche for relaxation. The bathroom off the bunkroom is a notably unique space with a glass-and-steel tram shower area offering innovative function and use of space.
Amenities include a game room and custom kitchen-bar on the lower level. The custom-built bar doubles as a shuffleboard table, and the bespoke lighting around the skee-ball machine matches that of an upscale arcade. The family motto, “Go Big or Go Home,” reiterates the vacation assignment in neon.
Sliding glass doors access outdoor living space that includes covered al fresco dining, a fireplace, and a spa-pool to soak tired muscles after a day on the slopes or golf course. Radiant heat beneath the driveway keeps shoveling from becoming a winter chore.“This home’s design was a completely collaborative effort,” emphasizes Blackband. “We were thrilled that the owners loved the outcome.”
