Acclaimed interior designer, Max Humphrey is continuing to make his mark with a new wallpaper and flooring collection in collaboration with Chasing Paper. Each pattern in the collection is an ode to the Mountain West’s distinctive characteristics – such as horseshoes, cabin and gingham. The collection consists of 17 wallpaper patterns and two peel and stick tile decals.

When asked to describe the collection in one word, Humphrey replied, “nostalgic.” “Like all of my collaborations, I wanted to create a collection of wallpapers that I really wanted to use. I’m my target audience, and I’ve found that if I design something and don’t want to use it in my own house, then no one else will either. I have a guest bedroom in my house, and I really was envisioning a take on a toile pattern but with farmhouse vibes, but I couldn’t find one out there, so I had to design my own. Voila, Farm Toile.”

Inspiration for creating patterns for Humphrey doesn’t necessarily start visually, but through words. “Big Gingam, Ditzy Floral, etc. From there, I design the patterns around the concepts. Whenever I get stuck, I just go to my favorite antique mall and wander around for inspiration.”

With several options, the art of wall decor is making an impact on the realm of interior design. “Wallpaper has made a comeback because people are being more fearless in their design decisions at home. And with the option of peel and stick, it gives people a chance to dabble on their own and start small, like in a powder room or accent wall.”
