A New Vacation Home Escape Gains Function, Warmth and Personality
Developer-built, this home was completely reimagined with new interior décor.
New York City–based homeowners purchased a staged, part-time residence in 3 Creek Ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and called upon Valerie Peña, owner of Valerie Peña Studio, to redesign the interior to better suit their taste and lifestyle. “I had previously worked with these clients on two primary residences in New York City,” Peña explains. “My collaborative experience with them was very helpful as we selected new design elements for their vacation sanctuary.”
Peña established her Manhattan studio after a decade of working in interior design in New York. Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, Peña has found success through dedication to her craft and a resolute commitment to authentic client relationships. With a versatile portfolio, her work is featured in townhouses on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and newly built vacation residences in Wyoming.
“These clients wanted something distinct from the Jackson Hole ranch aesthetic that still felt connected to place,” she says. “We worked together to draw inspiration from the surrounding landscape, bringing the colors of nature into the interiors.”
The home’s exterior is composed of stone, weathered wood, and a shingled roof. Some of the exterior materials are also found within the home, giving it a mountain modern look with rustic touches that emphasize the continuity of indoor-outdoor living.
With the scope of the project including new wall paint, furniture, and art, Peña got to work creating interiors focused on elevated sophistication balanced with warmth. A neutral palette of cream, gray, and shades of brown pairs with delightful pops of orange and red, providing a design that merges seamlessly with the expansive outdoor views. Deliberately curated lighting, art, and furnishings give the dwelling an utterly bespoke appearance.
The main vestibule leads to the living areas, showcasing art by Michel Salerno and a console by Chris Lehrecke. A cozy and welcoming living room beckons with a plush sofa, comfortable seating, and the inviting warmth of the fireplace. The kitchen displays a calming cream palette and Roman shades by Kate Hunt. Bar stools offer kitchen island seating, complemented by the unique pendant lighting above.
Bedrooms feature sink-in-and-relax furnishings clad in luxury linens. Light fixtures throughout the home are carefully selected and placed to add interest without impeding the spectacular views. Mixed materials add visual interest through layering and texture. “The bones of this home were beautiful,” says Peña. “The décor we installed created an interior with functional flair and personality.”
