A Shoots-and-Ladders Home in Shooting Star
Nestled on a lot in Jackson Hole’s Shooting Star golf club, this timber-and-barn-wood home is equal parts grand and cozy. With the community’s square footage regulations—and the owner’s visions of over-the-top luxury and spaces for recreation, stargazing, and entertaining guests—the design team was inspired to get extra creative. The result? A stunning Montana-style ranch with sections pieced together as if it had evolved over time.
Situated in the center of the property is the ranch’s stone-clad core, which houses the kids’ rooms and was designed to appear as if it were the original building. Three paths—two sleek, glass bridges and one covered, open-air bridge—extend from this core in different directions, and the wings to which they lead boast a slightly different character.

On one wing of the property sits the master suite on the upper level and the guest quarters below. On the other wing, a bridge leads to a fitness center above the main three-car garage. A silo houses a high-end telescope for stargazing on clear nights, and a third, open-air bridge leads to another, detached garage. Atop the detached garage, a completely open-air roofed deck is the perfect hangout for grilling, lounging, watching the game and enjoying the crisp mountain air.

New timbers made to look old, as well as extensive stonework, give the home an “understated ranch” aesthetic, which pairs well with the interior’s marble finishes, live-edge surfaces, and soft color palette. With rec rooms, ample dining spaces, a theater and recording studio—not to mention plenty of spots to cozy up with a good book or hot beverage—fun and relaxation is the name of the game.
Take a tour of the all-season home below.
