A new volume celebrating the skiing lifestyle on and off the slopes, Après Ski: The Scene, the Style, the Menu, takes readers all over the world to learn how to stylishly unwind after a full day on the mountain. The book focuses on all things après-ski; the best spots to visit, ski fashion and style and traditional food and drink recipes.
The book is written by Erin Isakov, the cofounder of the global ski and outdoor apparel brand Erin Snow, regularly featured in Vogue, Glamour, Condé Nast Traveler, The New York Times, and SNOW. She grew up an avid skier and snowboarder. Her father was a ski patroller at Mammoth Mountain, and Isakov calls Southern California home. She and her family make plenty of trips to Utah to hit the slopes each year. Recently retired from her apparel line, she jokes that “this year she put out a book rather than a clothing collection.”
“The book sort of landed in my lap,” Isakov says. “A client, who is a literary agent, reached out to see if I had any interest in writing a book. I had always thought about it, but it was that serendipitous nudge that made this book happen.” Isakov spent a full year working on the manuscript and scouring archives for vintage photos highlighting après-ski iconic chic and glamour.
“American photographer, Slim Aarons, and Hungarian American photojournalist, Robert Capa, captured beautiful images atop the slopes after World War II. Female American photographer, Toni Frissell, donated her work to the Library of Congress to ensure the images wouldn’t be lost to time. Isakov spent many hours searching sources, including the Colorado Sports Museum, to find photographs depicting the people, fashion, and food of the après-ski lifestyle.

“Fashion-forward skiwear was a cross-pollination of sport and style,” she notes. “Emilio Pucci began his storied career designing skiwear, and in the ski lifestyle’s heyday of the late 1960s and ‘70s, the fit and tailoring of ski apparel allowed personal expression through fashion choices.”
Bar and menu examples evoke memories of fantastic ski days. “Nobody can forget their first Bombardino and plate of nachos after a full day of outdoor activities,” exclaims Isakov. “Carb-heavy, not-particularly-healthy drinks and bites are perfect to offset a day on the slopes.” The book is intended to convey the fun, spirit, and joy of the après-ski lifestyle. “Skiing can be an icebreaker,” Isakov explains. “The camaraderie of a shared passion for the outdoors brings people together from all walks of life.”
