The ML List: Top Mountain Landscape Designers 2019

Recently, Mountain Living presented Legacy Awards to three remarkable landscape architects—the duo Kurt Culbertson and Richard Shaw at Design Workshop, and Jim Verdone of Verdone Landscape Architects. When talking about the changes they’ve seen during their more than 15 years in business, they mentioned a new level of sophistication in clients who come to them requesting sustainable landscapes—wanting their home to fit into the natural landscape rather than imposing it on the land.

Here you’ll find the Top Mountain Landscape Designers list—the top individuals assisting homeowners in realizing their outdoor visions. Compiled from recommendations by architects, designers and readers, we composed a directory of firms, listed by state and town, that are working in the Western high country. Some firms have more than one location so we’ve included the specific locale submitted with their nomination.

Firms that have been in Mountain Living receive a special designation, listing their most recent project as of July 2019. The list is illustrated with some of our favorite images, including those from our Legacy Award recipients Design Workshop and Verdone Landscape Architects.
