In a stunning blend of rustic and sleek, this new spec home at Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club masterfully mixes modern and mountain living in scenic Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
“People are responding to the direct connection to the environment this home provides,” says Leslie Dapper, lead interior designer for Steamboat-based Rumor Design + reDesign Studio. “It brings the outdoors in with fresh, interesting design.”
Allowing that to happen in a striking manner is the massive glass sliding door, which seamlessly integrates the great room with a spacious covered deck. Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the 5,700-square-foot home capture views across the ranch, the South Valley, the Flat Tops, Steamboat Ski Resort and, if you’re timing is right, migrating elk.
“It’s one of the most private yet dramatic views I’ve seen in Steamboat,” says Dapper, who has worked in Colorado since the 1970s. “I’ve seen herds of elk almost every morning and evening in the summer, and you can watch skiers coming down the mountain in the winter.”
This home sits inside the beautiful 1,216-acre ranch community, which offers amenities such as exclusive membership opportunities at the slope-side Alpine Mountain Summit Club, gold-medal trout fishing along a private stretch of the Yampa River and equestrian facilities.
Inside, the custom light fixture in the kitchen is a showstopper, “I wanted to be certain the light fixture was creating task lighting for the work spaces and giving off ambient light as well,” Dapper says.
The fixture was constructed locally by Fedewa Custom Works. They also built the home’s cabinetry, which features slab fronts and touch-latch pulls – streamlined touches of sleekness.
Contrasting the cabinetry with a bold pop of rustic is the rolled steel used as the surround of the 28-foot tall fireplace. The double glass sides allow the fire to be enjoyed from the kitchen and the living room.
“The modern architecture and elements definitely attract the eye,” says Jamie Curcio, Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club construction manager. “Using expansive glass, metal cladding, steel columns and steel trusses in lieu of knotty timber provides cleaner lines and a sophisticated look.”
The great room, kitchen, and dining area all share a common space allowing a free-flowing openness to family gatherings or social events. However, if privacy is sought, the lower level is open and functional.
Chris Paoli, the listing agent and owner/broker at Colorado Group Realty, says the Steamboat market is evolving, with buyers who own on-trend homes in their primary market seeking a similar experience in the mountains.
This home delivers, he says, “The style of this home allows the focus to be on the natural surroundings with walls of windows that bring in the mountain and forest views.”
