A Steamboat Springs Home With “Curve” Appeal

Built into the hillside, this eye-catching mountain abode boasts well-rounded details.

Photos by Tim Murphy

Nestled below the road, this unique home in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, goes above and beyond to capture attention—with surprising curves at every turn.

While the main section of the home boasts a gable framed roof, the typical mountain-home design stops there. Featuring arcs and curves from every angle, this architectural style definitely breaks the mold. Roof materials include both asphalt shingles and metal, which form a pleasant contrast. Below the roof one finds cedar panels and shaved shingle siding on a stone base. The rough joint cut stone complements the contemporary fluid forms and materials above.

A steel-and-glass entry takes center stage, with a large arced roof and a suspended canopy overhead—simulating the feel of a dramatic castle drawbridge, but with a modern twist.

Cedar panels surrounding the steel entryway mimic the look of metal siding.

A curved glass window is built into the home’s corner chimney.

Even the steel caps on the home’s two chimneys incorporate a rounded edge, as well as an expressive, contemporary flair.

The roof above the two-car garage is circular and sloping, which is sure to catch the eyes of passersby.
