Winter brings cold and snow to the mountains so why not celebrate it? There are numerous winter festivals throughout the mountain west and whether you’re looking to plan the family ski vacation around a festival or just want to shred pow and party, these three mountain events are the ticket to wintertime fun.

January 10-19, 2019

This is a special event that brings together slope fun with town entertainment and everyone (including the family dog) is welcome.

A large part of the event is WINTERSCULPT by Anderson Ranch Center. Teams work over a 48-hour period to turn huge snow cubes into works of art. The snow sculptures are then judged on creativity, design concept and technical execution. There’s a KIDSCULPT too. Both sculpture events take place downtown so it is easy for spectators to see all the imaginativeness on display.

There’s also a canine fashion show, bonfire and one of the best fireworks shows in the Rocky Mountains. On and off-mountain events are planned making Wintersköl a super fun time to visit Aspen. Learn more at AspenChamber.org.

This famous event provides the perfect excuse for a ski vacation in this Utah mountain town. Park City has a population of less than 10,000, but there are literally hundreds of events that occur around the film festival making this an extra special time to visit, especially if you love celebrity sightings and excellent skiing.

The festival features films across all genres. There are workshops for film buffs, parties and loads of special screenings. The program is being put together as this is being written, so keep tabs here as the 2019 details unfold.

Snowfest! Lake Tahoe, California
February 28-March 10

Considered the largest snow festival west of the Mississippi, the first Snowfest! was held in 1982. Today, it consists of 100 events around North Lake Tahoe, and although it was intended to promote the incredible spring skiing available to locals in March, it has become a nationally recognized winter festival.

There are so many things happening during Snowfest! that a visitor won’t be able to do them all, but they can choose what suits them best. There’s a torchlight parade, laser and fireworks show, dog events, tons of bar parties, ice carving, a polar bear swim and so much more, not to mention the skiing. Snowfest! is an ideal time to be in North Lake Tahoe.
