Reclaimed materials bring authentic character to a new guesthouse set among the cedar trees in Big Fork, Montana.

Interior designer Patricia Wood weighs in on what she loves about this Montana cabin:
  • The house has great walk-up appeal, with cedar tree trunks used as support posts.
  • The fireplace is a magnificent focal point, with a huge piece of stone that looks almost like a hood.
  • Daybeds in the living room are a delightfully unexpected concept.
  • Lighting throughout the house is custom made by local craftsmen. The artistic shades depict Montana wildlife and tie the cabin to its locale.
  • Granite countertops have irregular chiseled edges that suit the theme so well.
  • This small house has a lot of drama, with wonderfully exaggerated elements such as huge support beams and large-scale doorways.
  • The cabin has a natural, lived-in feeling because of all the rustic building materials. We added comfortable overstuffed furniture, textured fabrics and earthy colors to fit the design and architecture.
  • The spacious outdoor living areas are so inviting, with a fireplace, river views, outdoor kitchen and comfortable seating areas.
