Responsible Development Awards

Every month, Mountain Living celebrates the joys of living in or traveling to the high country of the Rocky Mountain West. In order to preserve this joy for future generations, Mountain Living would like to recognize the importance of responsible development in mountain areas.

Mountain Living annually awards top achievers in responsible, sustainable development in the categories of Residential, Community Development and Tourism. Awards will be based on specified criteria pertaining to protection of natural assets, inclusion of historic architecture, cultural heritage, wildlife preservation and natural beauty.

Award winners will be featured in Mountain Living's March/April 2010 issue. All entries will also be reviewed for editorial leads and possible inclusion in future Mountain Living issues.

Contest Rules

Entry is open to any organization or individual whose primary work is concentrated among the states of the Rocky Mountain West. Entries may be submitted by individuals or organizations associated with architects, builders, developers, land planners, tourism managers or local/state governments.

Award winners must be available to a Mountain Living photographer for one full day and must be available to be interviewed by a Mountain Living writer or editor.

Employees of Network Communications, Inc. and their families are not eligible to enter.

Categories

Community Development: A residential community that demonstrates design standards based on sound ecological and growth management. Developments must be completed or nearing completion at time of entry.

Tourism: A destination that responsibly preserves both cultural and natural resources.

Residential: Homes should be energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Innovative designs should incorporate recycled, renewable and/or reused resources to the extent possible and minimize the use of fossil fuel consumption.

Projects in the following locations are eligible: Alaska, Alberta, Arizona, British Columbia, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming and Utah.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: November 1, 2009

Entry Procedures:

Entries must include a completed entry form and signed publication and copyright permission letter from the property owner. Photocopies will be accepted.

Entries must include color photographs IN A DIGITAL FORMAT. Exterior and interior photos are recommended. Please include a brief description of each image. Site Plans and additional drawings, if applicable, are also recommended.

All photo disks must be clearly labeled with the entrant's name, address and telephone number, or the materials may not be returned. (Materials will be handled with care; however, Mountain Living magazine assumes no responsibility for lost or damaged materials. Please do not send originals.)

Professional photographs must have photo credits.

Entries must be postmarked no later than November 1, 2009.

All entries must be accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope, or they will not be returned.
